Would it be better to get this x850 XT after tax, shipping, and rebate it comes to about $173 or should I spend about $50 more to get a 7800GT??

Sounds like he's saying ~$225 for a 7800GT? Which would still be ~$30 cheaper that the lowest priced 7800GT I've ever seen.

Got mine the other day and got it installed yesterday. It is fairly loud guys, for those of you worried about noise. It has an odd pitch because of the plastic piping.

Also, mine OCed from 520/540 to 560/590 without any work from me, bumped my 3dMark05 scores 500 points.

Arghh! I was worried about that. Well, mine is scheduled to to be delivered noon-ish today. If my PC is indeed no longer quiet can anybody recommend something specific to calm down this card? It's so nice having a silent PC. Most of the time you wouldn't even know it's running, I'd hate to lose that.

Keep in mind that the way I have it the fan is pretty much facing the way I was sitting, so perhaps angling it away would help. And my observation of it being loud is based on 50%, when I play with ATI Tools and crank up the fan to 100% it sounds like the whole computer is going to take off :p

Yes, mine came with a power connector. It came with everything in the retail photos, just not the retail packaging.

On another note, I didn't realize my pricey monitor didn't come with a DVI cable, any suggestions where I can get one cheap now that I have a DVI card?

I got the OEM as well, my card came a little banged up, probably due to the lousy packaging job that newegg did. the metal bracket was bent (pliers fixed that) and one of the Falco inductors was broken and the small piece of plastic that was ratting around inside the static bag. but the card works just fine, so it's not all that big a deal. it's noisy as hell for about 3 seconds when you first turn the computer on or reboot. I use ATITool to control the fan speed, anything above 14% starts to get noisy.

PiMFG

Cables starting at $6.30. Be prepared - know which DVI cable you want. There's DVI-I, DVI-D, DVI-A, single link, dual link, etc.

I think you can get by with the DVI-D single link 18+1 Male to Male. Those are at the bottom of the page, however make sure... don't blame me if you get the wrong one.

Thanks! The manual says the card has a DVI-I connector. The monitor's manual says DVI Lingle Link. That page you listed has everything, so I should be able to figure it out.

14%? That seems like a pretty slow fan speed?

that's because the fan is noisy as hell. even at 50% it's loud! @ 18% I can hear it over everything else in my computer.

How is it Anandtech could do a Video card price roundup this month without even mentioning this development with the PCIe X850XT?

I thought the same thing. I was excited to see the price guide, because I wanted to read AT's recommendation regarding the x850xt, because I was still debating getting it. They mentioned that the 6800GS was $154 AR but not a word about this card. I went ahead and got it. At this price I'll be able to use the card for 6-9 months, sell it at a loss of less than $40 probably, and upgrade to an x1900 or 7900 series. I'm sick of not being able to game at all. My 7800GT RMA wound up being a refund rather than a replacement, and I've been using a 10-year-old PCI card that won't even play videos on MSN!

I sent an email to Haider about this blatant omission from today's price guide, but he hasn't responded. This card at this price changes EVERYTHING for anyone shopping for a PCIE video card between $150-$250.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I scanned through the video card price guide. It blabbed about the x800xls being to expensive in the midrange and I was like "WTF isn't the x850xt on here? Doesn't that make short work of the 6800gs for the same price?"

Add me to the list. I was shocked to not see this in the listing.

OUCH!

I'm considering snagging one of these cards and selling off my spare X800GTO cards.

As far as I can tell, the card is the same card in all 3, just different package.

100106L RETAIL <- $154AR!
100106SR-RD RETAIL <- $164 AR! OOS.
100106-RD OEM <- Gone?

Are all these the same in terms of specification? I couldn't see the memory speed of the 100106L on newegg.
Thanks,
