I don't know how to feel about this.

I mean..one kind of wants to see colossal dickpags get punished for their unbridled douchiness, but I see no reason to send them to prison for it.

I still can't wrap myself around a bias intimidation conviction.

I'm leaning with these comments from that article:

“There’s no winner here,” said Bill Dobbs, a longtime gay activist and civil libertarian. “There’s a young gay man dead and another one whose life is wrecked to a considerable degree. This case had an overzealous prosecutor … who was pushed by gay organizations that have lost sight of justice."
Marc Poirer, an openly gay professor of law and sexuality at Seton Hall University School of Law in New Jersey, said he was concerned about the verdict, saying it was not a typical bias crime.
“I think that the law didn’t fit very well,” he said, calling Ravi’s actions those of a “dumb 18-year-old” that “went wrong.”
“I think if Clementi had not committed suicide, none of this would have surfaced in this way,” he added. “I don’t want to say it’s a miscarriage of justice. I would say it’s a misapplication of principles that would be better served -- especially if we’re just figuring out how to do this -- with a clearer case.”

You're reading more into it than is there. I'm obviously defective. My eyesight sucks, the bones in my neck are degenerated, and I'm slightly slew footed. I imagine almost everybody in this thread is defective in some form or another. It's an accurate word for the situation. This ties in with the retarded thread. Changing the words doesn't change the facts, or the condition. It can be prettied up by changing the words, but that only lasts a short while. Once people figure out what you're really talking about, the new words carry the same meaning as the old words which worked just as well in the first place.

Yeah and I have severe scoliosis, but how does does a physical deformity equate with a sexual orientation? A lot of people say it's because gay people don't "reproduce" but neither do a lot of straight people (don't want kids, are firing blanks/barren etc.) and I think it's reductionist absurdity to say people are merely the sum of their genetics.

sorry but its true, i'm not sure what kind of insane universities you've been to, theres no issue with gays, frankly the assumption is almost that 50% of people are gay for this generation at this point, its all glee and the rest, so to pretend like you are living as a black during times of lynching is a total lie. screaming and vitriol are far more likely to be found against causes/groups like israel/israelis than anything gay. http://www.adl.org/main_Anti_Israel/campus_anti_israel_trends_activity.htm
If anti gay movements were anywhere as remotely strong as the israel stuff you would know...its demonization on an entirely different level and you wouldn't be able to ignore it. so to pretend that gays face the same on college campus's is just laughable. whens the last anti gay rally or film screening you've had on a public university campus?

do tell.

50%? Try about 2-5% (at least has been my observation; they're at least persecuted enough that it's hard to get firm numbers); the youth is not turning any more gay than they have been in previous generations despite conservative scaremongering. I think there's a lot of problems with gay culture but none of them affect me personally so I don't really care. Israel on the other hand is a huge part of why the middle east is so antagonistic towards the US (great satan etc.). The AIPAC is one of if not the most powerful lobby group in DC, and they put Israeli interests before US interests at the US's expense.

No one talking about the sentencing? 30 days of jail time, mainly for the witness tampering and cover up from what I can tell. Probation for the other charges.

I see some people thinking the punishment is too little. I disagree. Anything over 3 months would have been too much imo

Yea. Also people will complain he is going to county jail, not the state pen..

I say he serves 15-21 days and he will be out. Ive been to that jail a few times (as a visitor) and its way overcrowded.

I almost broke down when Dharuns mom was speaking. Not so much when Tylers mom spoke.

In some jurisdictions the local lock-up is actually a lot worse than a state prison, especially since this guy would probably be in minimum security.

Trust me, the adult correctional center on Rt 130 where Dharun is going is not terrible.

I still don't understand why women want to watch two men go at it. Maybe they don't feel threatened by the other woman like they do in a man/woman scenario?

I hate bullies but they dont deserve to get deported. This indian asshole was not the one who made a conscious decision to kill himself. Tyler Clementi did. 30 days in jail seems like a fair punishment.
