2 routers to extend wireless

I just set up this system in my gf's house, wanted to make sure I got it right.

Cable modem goes to router 1. Router 1 is 192.168.0.1

Router 2 is connected via cat 5 from port 3 of router 1 to port 1 on router 2.

Router 2 is set up with a static IP of 192.168.0.150, and the range of router 1 is 192.168.0.2-.149. Router 2 has it's DHCP turned off.

Wireless of router one is on channel 6. Wireless on router two is on channel 11. Both have the same SSID, and both broadcast the SSID.

Is that all I needed to do? They seem to jump ok as I get wireless where I didn't before, just wanted to make sure I got it right as to efficiency.

Sorry, I thought I hit reply but I blipped so I guess it didn't go through.

I meant to say thanks alot for the reassurance it's done right. It's been working very well for using the laptop in the garage and front yard, and using wifi on my cell phone from the dog pen.

With a setup using the same name for multiple routers, do you have any control over which router you are connected to. Or which one is the primary connection?

The reason I ask is I'm curious if this is possible using two different routers that don't broadcast the same standard. I have two routers, one running G only and the other running N only. So I'm curious if it's even possible to pick what the machine connects to, but only having one SSID for both.

I think Jack will have to be the one to tell you, but I don't think it's possible to tell it which one, nor will the device smoothly flow between two different frequencies.

This is what I want to do as well for my parents. Their walls are really thick but the room are connected with Cat5.

So there should be no problem with having them both use the same name just on different channels?

And make sure router 2 is statically assigned an IP and has it's DHCP turned off, so basically it acts as a switch instead of a router.
