Hey,
I'm working on a math CD-Rom (same one as before, some of you might remember) and I need the answers to the fallowing:

1. You are pulling a wagon. The handle is at an angle of 30 degrres from the horizon. Your pulling force is 20.0 newtons. Find the vertical and horizontal forces, in newtons, on the wagon.

2. You are walking up the hill at a pace of about 4.0 km/h. The hill makes an angle of 10 degrees with the horizon. If you have gone 10.0 km, how far have you moved horizontally, verticaly?

If you could explain how you got the answers that wouldbe a plus! :)

Also, I'm just the designer, I'm not in charge of this.

Thanks!

1. vertical is sin(30)*20.0 newtons, horizontal is cos(30)*20.0 newtons, the signs of the forces depends on what axes you set.

2. ignore that first number since it doesnt give you time. vertical is sin(10)*10.0km, horizontal is cos(10)*10.0km, the signs of the displacement depends on what axes you set.

just remember that if the angle is with respect to the horizontal, the horizontal gets the cosine. if the angle is with respect to the vertical, then vertical gets the cosine. this only works if you use the proper axes.

yah the first part of that 2nd question is useless. to make it a little more irritating for the end user, get rid of the 10 km bit and replace it with "if you have walked for 2.5 hours".

Thanks a million guys!

Just one last question I missed:

You have agreed to meet a friend at a particular place. You are 110m apart. He must walk at an angle of 40 degrees to reach the spot. You must walk at an angle of 60 degrees to reach the spot. How far do you each have to walk?

Thanks again! :)

Oh, and thanks for telling me about the first part of that question. I'll check and see if they want it removed. :)
