2 quick questions.

1. What is the best AMD XP heatsink fan. I am thinking of buying a Thermalright SLK 900A. It will be going onto a mobile 2400 that will be overclocked to the max 🙂.

2. I want to mod a window of a case and put a few fans into it. Would a simple drill work fine? or would i crack the window? The top one is pictured hereand the side one is pictured here

Thanks for your replies!

1. Based on a review and the fact that Thermalright makes great heatsinks, if you want solid OC performance and don't mind the noise, you should consider something like a 92x92x38 Delta. That baby will give you all the air you want + AND shop off a fingertip if you aren't careful.

I have the exact same fan setting on my sub right now. It's there to remind me why I switched to water. 🙂

2. I'm not a drill sort of guy and had my window cut for me. But I did learn that standard Plexi is brittle under a bit and will shatter easily if not treated right. I went with Lexan for that reason.

If you are looking for the best performance heatsink with a high cfm (and high noise) fan then get the Thermalright SP-97. It is basically the SLK 900 but has heatpipes and screws onto the motherboard.
Also the Thermalright SI-97 is due to be released soon. It should offer a slightly better performance than the SP-97 and will be lighter due to the aluminium fins.

hmmm... this is turning out to be a risker mod than i had hoped. Any way i'll post some pics of the case and I guess you can tell me if a really "need" an exaust fan or not.

Although i don't mind a little bit of noise something like a vantec tornado is just rediculus. You can hear it anywhere on the floor. I have been looking for SP 97 but they cost a lot of money.

Thanks for the reponses guys, I think i am going to go for the 9xx series.

Also, I could get a 947 with a Jet fan on it. Does anyone have any experiances with this fan? Does it really move enough air to look that stupid?

I really wish i was in the states! But up in Canada everything costs more so i have to buy off these fourms to get a decent price on anything. Do the heatpipes overcome the fact that it is not a copper heatsink?

Also, are there any good reviews on socket A heatsinks? I have searched the fourm and googled it many times, but i can't find good comparasons between thermalright heatsinks vs. others.

For reviews you should look at systemcooling.com and silentpcreview.com.
According to systemcooling.com the SI-97 is currently the best Socket A heatsink. Also the SI-97 has a nickel plated copper base as well as nickel plated copper heatpipes. Just the fins are made from aluminium.
