toms hardware is a pretty respected and trusted site, as is Anandtech.
if buying ram always go with name brand, when you buy gereric you open yourself up to all sorts of problems, generic is not as high quality.
go to crucial.com to get an explination of RAM terms. Memory terms
Registered modules contain a register that delays all information transferred to the module by one clock cycle. Like buffered modules, registered modules are typically used only in servers and other mission-critical systems where it is extremely important that the data is properly handled.
Reading hardware review sites can sound like a soap opera sometimes. HardOCP gets reamed a lot, but I like some of their reviews. The trick is, don't read any 1 site and assume "Well, that's all there is too it". Read several reviews of the same product on as many sites as you can then use that thing between your ears to find the truth. I really like this site, which is why I joined their forum and not any others.
Generic RAM sux. Name brand does not.
Registered RAM From what I understand, registered RAM is used in "mission critical" applications, like servers. Not needed or recommended for home users because it performs slower.
Thanks for the answers guys. Hey Maggatory? gotta like that 21" Sony you're running! I run a 17" Trinitron made by KDS, Great monitor, but geez, 21" wow, must be nice. 🙂
I was worried about getting it at first. I thought I'd burn the retina's out of my head looking at that monster. But, it is by far the greatest piece of hardware I own. I'd give up anything on any of my computers before I'd give up that. It also makes watching DVD's on the computer a rather enjoyable experience. Especially with my 5.1 set-up. My wife thinks I'm insane..........hmmm....maybe. 😛
