2 questions??

I'm using a ASrock K7VM2 and in bios in advanced I'm just wondering what "Spread Spectrum" is?? is where your clock settings are.

2nd ? is what would make a cd writer go dormant? Sometime I have problems in bios reading that its there and others no probs. I'll let the PC idle and come back and the drive is dead and not listed in my computer.

Any help all is greatly appreciated.

2) Bad or incorrect IDE cable?

1) In theory, Spread Spectrum may allow slightly better overclocking, but it increases the chance of frequency interference in the area surrounding the computer.

What psada mentioned about Spread Spectrum is basically correct. You might want to go to this BIOS optimization site to better "educate" yourself on these items. An excellent source.

As to the CD drive problems, it could be the cable, how the cable is plugged in (fully inserted or not), a faulty drive, a bad IDE connector or even a bad CMOS battery. Best bet is to first unplug the IDE cable, then reinsert and test. Next, replace the cable (their cheap!). If those don't work, repost here as to what you have done. BTW, the CMOS battery is cheap too but do the others first. Also, are there any other "strange" things happening like the system losing a bit of time here and there?
