2 questions: CPU+AS5=hot? & CPU speed=lower?

Hi

Question #1:
I just put in a AMD 3000+ 400 FSB and I used Artic Silver 5 and put a thin layer on the CPU chip(thing in middle). I rubbed a little on the heatsink then wiped it off. I've read the tutorials many times and I've seen the sample pictures of how much your suppose to put on. I'm sure I did it right. As it stands right now I'm at about 47 degrees idle. I'm too scared to try full load, so I'm waiting awhile. When I surf the internet my temp goes to around 49 degrees. I know Artic Silver 5 takes time to "break in", but these temps are a little high right? When it does "break in" how much of a drop will I see?

PS-I'm not overclocked.

Questions #2:
I had a AMD 3000+ 333 FSB, and now I have a AMD 3000+ 400 FSB. When I was running the 333 FSB CPU my speed was at 2.17 GHz, but now I'm running the 400 FSB CPU and my speed now reads 2.10 GHz. Does anyone have any ideas why my CPU speed is a little lower? I know that kind of drop won't make a difference in performance, but I'm just curious. If my temps ever get cooler, I plan to try to overclock to AMD 3200+ speeds. We'll see what happens though.

Thanks for any commments!

the increase in fsb speed and corresponding memory throughput mean that the lower clocked 3000+ 'should' be as quick as the 333 fsb version. As for you temps dont worry too much they are specced to 75c. Try reseating your heat but this time with a little pile f as5 in the middle.

AS5 takes a night or more to really become effective. i wouldn't worry, wait around 24 hours with ons and offs to let it heat up and cool down. then it should be fine.

I think you put your heatsink on backwards. Yes, they can be installed backwards! If you have the screwdriver notch facing downward, away from the power supply, then you've got it backwards.

Ok thanks for replies. I don't think I put on my hsf backwards because there is a little "step" or notch if you want to call it, and it lines up with the CPU holder. If you know what I mean.
