Hi,

I saw the great deal at newegg for a xp1700+ thoroughbred b for only $51 and i was thinking about upgrading

Right now i have a tbird 1.4, i've been able to get it up to 1596mhz stable with an akasa silver mountain hsf and delta black label fan (i know its not the best hsf/fan combo)

So if I upgrade to the 1700+ and overclock, would I see much performance difference? I don't play many games besides wc3 - I have a gf4 ti4200 btw

Also, would I be able to use the akasa silver mountain with the 1700?

the xp1700 from newegg does not overclock well at all. (even though it's revB, the "j" stepping does not do good)

try the xp2100 revB TBred (the $101), have one report of it doing 2.4Ghz air cooled.

2.4Ghz if you have to overvolt it to 2.1 or 2.2v will kill the CPU lifespan like whatever happened to the p4 Northwoods.

The Tbred B Xp1700 overclock alright but it was nothing more than the tbred A. The most you might get out of the Xp1700 is prolly 100 to 200Mhz over what the Xp1700 is getting.
