1. Are there any conflicts or bad choices here? :

P4 1.8Ghz (Going to overclock to 2.4, see below 🙂 )
Gigabyte GA-8IGX
Crucial DDR 2100 256MB
WD 80GB 8MB Cache Caviar Edition
MSI Geforce 4 Ti4200 128MB (Was on sale)

I'm keeping from his last PC -

SB Live! Value
Phillips CDRW
and floppy, DVD rom etc.

2. Is there a step by step guide on how to overclock the P4 1.8Ghz to 2.4?? I've heared it's quite simple and safe, but it will be my fist time overclocking and I don't wanna do anything wrong.

Thanks!

In general PC2100 is not the best OC RAM for a P4 Northwood, however, if you only want 2.4GHz (133FSB), it should be ok, although you may or may not be able to take advantage of the higher mem ratios (4:5, 3:4).

As for a step by step guide to 2.4GHz, basically just get everything setup (install OS, drivers, etc) at default, then go into the BIOS and set the FSB at 133MHz instead of 100MHz. Run Prime95 for an hour or two to make sure its stable, and if its stable, you're done. If you get any errors, increase the vcore a notch, and run prime95 again. You should be able to get 2.4 at or very near default voltage, though. If you wanna try a higher mem ratio, first try the 4:5 mem ratio, and run prime95 again for an hour or more. You may need to up your vdimm a notch or two in order to get the 4:5 ratio (DDR333). But that RAM simply may not be able to handle DDR333 (PC2700)

Thanks alot for the info!

No problem! 🙂 Just one more bit of advice, once you start overclocking that thing, you may get addicted and 2.4GHz may not be enough, and you might kick yourself for only getting PC2100 RAM 😉
