2 questions - 1. overpowered AC adapter? 2. warranty with used adapter?

I have a dell that I purchased from the dell outlet. Now, what they sent me with the laptop was a dell PA-15 AC adapter. It fits and it works, but it is 150watts. This adapter is HHHUUUUGGGGEEEE. It also seems to charge the battery a wee bit too fast. ( I had a full charge in probably under 30 minutes. )

I'm concerned that:

A. If I buy a new PA-12 that it will cause warranty problems

B. The 150 watt charger is charging the battery too fast and will shorten the battery life. Any experiences? dell has told me that the PA-15 is the correct adapter, but on the bottom of the laptop it says PA-10, 12, or 21(international adapter)

I think you should be fine. Should be similar to a desktop PSU in that is only supplies as much power as is requested. Of course I could be completely off base, let someone confirm or make me look like an idiot.

Here are the specs for the PA-10, 11, 12, and 15:

PA-10: 19.5v 4.64a = 90.48w (90)
PA-11: 19.5v 4.74a = 92.74w (90)
PA-12: 19.5v 2.34a = 65.13w (60)
PA-15: 19.5v 7.34a = 143.13w (150)

The critical element is the voltage. They are all the same. The variable is the amount of current, which does affect the rate of charge. You are probably used to the 90 watt charger.

If Dell says it is OK, it should be, however, the PA-15 is designed for the XPS series laptops. I don't think it will shorten your battery life appreciably. However, it will pose an extra burden in size and weight when you travel. For that reason alone, I would get the PA-11. The PA-12 might be too wimpy.
