okey when it comes to watercooling, i think ive done enough research, but heres a question for people that have been in the hobbby of watercooling longer then me,

Currently my loop has a D5 pump on it. I had a DD MAG pump on my other system that i decided to retire. So the question is, if i was to add the DD CPS MAG pump on the loop with my D5, would i lose performance? i would assume i would lose some performance because the output on the MAG pump is nowhere near the output on my D5. But i would want a backup incase one died without having to tear the loop apart and rebleed the entire system.

Anyhow im asking because i wanted to add a passive res on my loop so im gonna rebleed the system soon. If there is some benifit without flow restriction im down to do it, but if there is, i guess im watercooling my brothers rig.

Multiple pumps would not work.
You could have them share a reservoir though and have one to do NB and the other larger pump to do CPU and GPU.

But that would involve a lot more pipework and wouldn't really yield better results I don't think.

I'm not quite sure I understand your question(s), OP. Can you rephrase? In general, as long as the pumps are fairly close in terms of specs you can use two. If they're wildly different, one or both will be slowly damaged as they each seek exhaust/intake equilibrium.

He wants to run the pumps in series.

From what I know, the pressure will increase[good thing] BUT--you can NOT exceed the maximum flow rate of either pump.... you can guess as to what happens if you do. [See HardWarrior's post above me :p]

You have a storm and 2 Maze blocks [assumption from the SLi system.]... the Maze blocks aren't restrictive, but the storm is.

As you said, the Mag output [assuming you're talking L/hr] is nowhere near the D5... so I'd say no.

If you had 2 D5's (MCP655) I'd say do, but there not the same.

Increased flow from another pump is about 50% more flow. (seems like nothing is ever 100% gain right? Like SLI)

2 pumps in series = increased static pressure (overcome resistance)
2 pumps in parallel = increased maximum shut-off head (push coolant farther)

Two pumps in either configuration doesn't increase flow (coolant velocity) because neither pump can exceed its rated flow.

ahhh that was the answer i was expecting, but not wishing for. Yeah the CPS MAG and the D5 are completely different. Okey question answered, unless someone disagree's?

im actually running 2 pumps in a series (the 1250 ehim ones i think). i had just rebuilt my h2o cooling box because my old pump had died. when the old pump died i didnt realize it untill a few DAYS later. i now have 2 flow indicators (one for each pump) this way if one dies i can still use my computer untill i get a replacement (which could take a while with shipping and all).

overall its working pretty well.

i made them. there basically what zalman (i think) has, except i made them for 1/2 ID tubing. there each right after the outlet of each pump. i have them so i can see them. now that i just told you how i have it setup i just realized something. even if one pump does stop both flowmeters will still be going. :( i hadnt thought of that. looks like i need a new idea.
