Heya, posted this over on the nForce boards as well, but ATers have always come through for me in the end so here it is too
Using the newest BIOS, 21.
Problem 1 - No Sound: Used 3.13 unified drivers, then downloaded and installed 4.09/4.08 audio drivers as recommended. in the nForce control panel it shows that i am indeed playing sound (by watching the output bars) and winamp/windows media player/TV apps do NOT give any direct sound or some such errors... they report that they are indeed producing sound. i connected my speakers to another source, they are also capable of producing sound. i have tried multiple speakers settings including the default to try to get my speakers working (regular 2 speaker, green to green plug in) and no sound. yes i have the audio turned on in the bios, no i do not have any other sound device installed driver wise or hardware wise. is there anything on the motherboard i need to set to get it working? does the FPIO2 header have anything to do with this? currently it has 2 sets of pins with jumpers, the Right set of speaker pins and the Left set of speaker pins... do i need those on there? thats how it came when i bought it. please help, one of the reasons i bought this board so i could move my Santa Cruz card to another computer.
Problem 2 - Can not boot Winxp install from SATA using Serirell2: I saw the post with someone else with a similar problem. On the 1st screen after the post screen, i hit F4 and get the 'no device found' error. I tried the solution people posted in the other thread about repairing the previous installion, loading up the SATA drivers at the start. Well i loaded up the drivers, but it did not see my previous installation to repair... /doh, np i told it to install on that drive anyways and to delete my old windows directory which it DID see. install, reboot... 'Windows can not continue, invalid boot drive, pls check to make sure blah blah blah.' do i need to completely reformat the harddrive during the windows installation to get it to recognize it? i installed windows onto my other HD on the primary IDE, i can see, read, write to the drive in the SATA just fine... but i can not boot from it, if there is a setting in the raid menu to make it bootable i wouldn't know as the raid bios never sees the device.
If you need any more information please post it and i will do the best i can to get that information. i must also note that i am overclocking my XP1700 to 10x200fsb, my ram is also boosted from its standard 266mhz to 400mhz. in windows i'm stable, and my temperatures are normal... but most importantly, these problems manifest themselves even when at normal stock speeds. i tried the SATA windows installation at stock speed w/the same error and i did a format reinstall on the IDE drive at stock speed with the same problems. I have not tried a fresh format reinstall on the SATA as i have data on this drive that i need to back up, i was hoping that i could save myself some time but i am willing to format reinstall that drive after backups if it will solve my problems.
My Current Setup:
XP1700 (currently clocked 10x200, no voltage changes)
2x256 PC2100 Crucial (currently clocked at 400mhz, with mem timings at slowest, no voltage changes)
Geforce3 Ti200 (at stock right now)
80gig WD Hard Drive (7200rpm ATA100, i forget the cache, currently on the SATA via Serrillel2 adapter)
2 x 30gig IBM Deskstars (GXP75 i think, 7200rpm w/2mb cache ATA100, on the primary IDE channel)
Sony DVD Drive (on secondary IDE channel)
Sony CDRW Drive (on secondary IDE channel
ATI TV Wonder PCI
Realtek LAN Card
Generic Modem (conexant chip, for the rare chance my DSL goes down)
D-Link DWL 520+ Wireless Card
Current CPU Temp: 39 Celcius
Current System Temp: 22 Celcius
Also i want to try every possible solution to fix this before resorting to RMA as everything besides these 2 problems if fine. Also worse to worse i can disable nForce sound and use my Santa Cruz, and i can always just run my OS from the IDE channel. I intend to pick up another Seriellel2 device so i can run the IBM drives in raid though... so i dunno if putting those drives on both SATA1/2 will net difference results than what i have now, but if anyone is looking to sell one of those i am interested if its lower than Newegg.
