Hi all, I've got two unusual problems I haven't yet managed to figure out, any help is appriciated.
Mouse
I'm using a Razor Diamondback mouse on my new computer. Most of the time it works fine. But sometimes, my compute will start up but the mouse will be unresponsive. The exact way it works is I power on, the keyboard and mouse light up, it'll go into booting Win Xp, halfway through the keyboard and mouse will darken momentarily and then light back up. Everything's fine.
But sometimes, during that process when it's halfway through and the keyboard and mouse darken, only the keyboard lights back up and the mouse is dead.
I'm running the latest drivers for my mouse. The rest of the specs are...
AMD 4200+
Asus A8n-e rev 2.0
2x 1gig dual channel OCZ 2-3-2-5
BFG GeForce 7800GTX
Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Seagate SATA 2 drive
BenQ DVD burner(Newest one)
Seasonic 430w PS
Both USB hubs are active on the motherboard.
Any ideas?
Sound
I have the midiland 8200 series speakers with the DTS decoder. These speakers have been trouble since the day I bought them. They do not link up to an Audigy card through the analog inputs in any way that I know, I have to use the digital port.(If anyone knows a way to setup these speakers analog I'd *love* to know!)
I used PowerDVD 4.0 for years without major issues. But not too long ago I upgraded to PowerDVD 6.0. Since then I've run into myriad issues. For reference, every volume slider under the advanced options in the sound panel in control panel is all the way up. I have the "Digital Output Only" box checked.
First, the sound coming out during DVD playback is *highly* directional. A problem I never had before. I keep my center channel above and slightly behind my monitor, and have never had an issue hearing it. Since upgrading, the sound becomes muddy until I propped the center channel up so it pointed directly at me, if I don't it's extremely difficult to hear what's being said. It almost seems like the sound is being processed to create a sound field, such as the effect used for 2 speaker setups to create a surround field.
Second, and I'm not sure if this is PowerDVD or some other setting(s), I have to *crank* the volume to get anything acceptable out of it during playback. If I'm playing a game, setting the speakers about halfway results in sound that is slightly audbile a floor above me. The same setting during DVD playback is so quiet that it's just slightly above a whisper.
Third, for an unknown reason, I *cannot* get Dolby Digital or DTS passed through to my decoder unit. No problems with PowerDVD 4, but with 6, I'm not getting anything other than PCM, whatever that is. Not sure if other settings may be responsible, or if it's all PowerDVD.
Fourth, under the THX settings for the Audigy 2, if I set it up to pass through as 5.1 I don't get any sound from my center channel. I have to set it as 2.1 to get Center Channel sound.
Fifth, Are all these Soundblaster programs/settings at all usefull or can they be mucking up everything?
Any advice is appriciated.
