2 Pointing devices on 1 PC... at same time. Possible? How?

Okay.

Got mouse and a remote control trackball hooked up to my computer.

(BTW remote control trackball at local OfficeMax for $2.00+tx and it works great)

on a kt-7 raid mb,

mouse is ps/2 (at least that's what I always considered that small round hookup that's same size as my keyboard hookup)

remote control trackball is serial hookup.

Both have their own drivers, and after installing both, trackball is default upon bootup and the mouse is not responsive. When I refresh the !mouse driver in control panel/system/hardware, the mouse kicks back in and remote trackball goes dead.

Know of any way to have them both be functioning at the same time??

I think a Y cable or using USB is the easiest route.

Yeah, USB would be good if possible. I have had two mice hookup up at once and they worked perfect. You could use them both to control the same cursor. One was a logitech mouseman wheel (PS/2) and the other was an Intellimouse Explorer (USB).

I would try using generic drivers and see if that helps.

What OS are you using? I had mine working in Win98SE.

Single USB from my MB that would Y split into 1)serial connection for trackball and 2)ps2 connection for the mouse.

And I would.... get this Y split connection from like.... compusa??



BTW, am using win 98se whatever the version that BSOD the least.

I don't know if you actually can get an USB Y-splitter. Usually, if you have used up your USB connections, you get an USB hub and hook it to one, then add more devices to the hub.

Oh, on my laptop, I have the touchpad and use Intellimouse drivers, but can use either just a generic mouse or Intellimouse, even though the Intellimouse drivers are installed. I don't have to change anything.

I meant a Y cable for ps2 mice. If you have USB you wouldn't have to do anything but plug them in.

I use 2 devices all the time. Currently I use a Wacom PenPartner USB pad and stylus and a PS/2 mouse. Both active. In the past I used a serial Wacom Art Pad and a PS/2 mouse . . . both active.

The trackball may be using mouse drivers??? That would confuse things. But . . . see if you can replace the Serial device with a USB device.

I also used a device called a "Y" Mouse which allowed two devices in the same serial port. USB works better.

So from my understanding on your posts, easiest way to have 2 pointing devices (mice/trackball/etc) is to have :

both devices using usb hookup

or

1 device that uses usb hookup
other device using ps/2 hookup

What I HAVE is :

1 device that uses ps/2 + (generic ps/2 win 98 mouse driver)
1 device that uses serial port. (proprietary remote control trackball driver)

Maybe I can get serial to ps/2 or serial to usb converter??
