The reason I can't get to cheap of a phone for work is that I have no net access outside of my phone while at work.

I don't see why you can't use google voice for this... yes it would be expensive, but it would work.

I suppose so - but I do not ever turn on my phone unless I want to make a call. We have "his" and "hers." We don't roam - that capability is turned off. For me, a cell phone is for emergency use only.
