sorry man, ive been following your thread since the beginning and im about lost also. But heres a bump for a resolution.

So far the only option looks like a cold reformat. That would help it if your sure its software and not hardware.

Actually, what I am doing now is going through the tweakguide again to optimize the system and see if anything along the way helps.
 
OK, I have found a solution- disabling remote scheduled tasks. I deleted the registry key that refers to t his and it made the connection perfect. However, I figured I would reboot to see if the solution was permanent. Upon reboot, the key was back and my connection bad again. So I need to figure out how to disable remote scheduled tasks another way... I am searching for it on Google right this second. Any ideas?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > RemoteComputer > NameSpace

That appears to be quite an ancient problem. Did you manage to find a way to make it permanent?
