2 Odd DVD/CDRW Problems in Machines

Ok, so i have 2 different machines, with 2 different problems:

A)
My HTPC, 1.3 Duron, MSI Turbo2, WindowsXP Pro, with a Creative 12X DVD-rom.
-- Whenever i boot with a CD in the drive, it will freeze on a black screen after posting. If i restart & take the CD out, everything boots normal!!!! I know this isn't normal, so what could be causing it?

B)
an Athlon 750 with Abit KT7, WinXP Pro, & A Polaroid 32X CDRW drive
-- The bios detects the drive, hell, even Windows Detects the drive correctly, but i can't see ANYTHING inside the folder. The drive opens & it's empty!!! I've tried several CDs, same problem!!! I've tried removing the secondary IDE controller & reinstalling, same problem.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

a) your bios is stupid... change the boot order, as in where it looks for bootable "media", may want to remove the cd option if you dont use it... place HDD before CDROM.

b) are you talking about burned discs? or actual pressed CDs? cuz it seems like you're not finalizing your burns...
