2 NICS separate networks

Hi all,
Been doing a lot of research on this (having 2 nics installed in 2 different comps) and many years ago before having the use of a router to have my roommate and I use the cable modem at the same time we used Sygate I think.

Anyhow my question stems from the fact that I now have 2 comps next to each other. BOth actualy have 3 nics, 2 wired and an installed Dlink wireless. The Wireless issue is not a problem -- both comps connect to the wireless router and all is good. My problem is that I connected the 2 comps with a network cable (crossover) to both their giga NICS with a different IP address (NOT on the same range as my wireless -- so 192.168.1.X for wireless and 192.168.5.X for the wired). My reason for this was to be able to transfer huge files I work with effortlessly between the two without having to go over the wireless network or having to use a USB key or burnt DVD. It worked... for a bit. However now some times I can see the other comp... other times I cannot and for pete sakes although I have given full control to each of the two comps in the sharing feature.... it keeps telling me I dont have permission.

My wireless network has a netowrk name like Wireless1. Right now both comps join or connect to that network which is the wireless. Could I somehow just give one of the comps a different network name... so that I now can see 2 networks? One that i know is wireless and the other wired... but would my WInXp figure out which one is which?

Grrr.. guess I am asking if there is a way to direct what files I want to transfer over a specific NIC> I am sure there is lots of info on this site so here i go back to checking but if anyone knows of something simple that I am not doing let me know.

Using WinxP Pro and just TCIP...

I've done something similar, but I just used the same name for both workgroups. I ran 100mps to a router that served internet connection, plus file sharing to a couple computers on the 100mb lan. Then I ran Gigabit directly to a storage box (that is also on 100mb to the router).

The trick to making it work properly was killing the "bridges" that windows wanted to make. Also I would isolate each section while I set it up.

Start out by unplugging the both networks. I then setup the gigabit connection for filesharing, but no internet connection. Unpluged the gigabit, and connected the 100MB to the router on one system at a time. Setting up the internet connection and file sharing was easy, but i did it keeping only one system with gigabit at a time. I didnt want them to ever transfer to each other across the router if gigabit was availble.
