2 NICS in win2k=nightmare ????

ok heres my network setup before i get into the specific problem...

NIC 1 (print server LAN) (100mbit)
ip: 130.10.10.4
subnet: 255.255.0.0
gateway: 130.10.10.1 (print server)

NIC 2 (WAN/VPN via adsl) (10mbit)
ip: dhcp
gateway: 192.168.1.50 (router/vpn/dsl)
metric: 4
dns: x.x.x.x
x.x.x.x

i have 2 PCs with this config both running win2k (sp1) and win98se as backup on secondary drive. the nics on these machines vary from SMC, intel, and netgear cards.

The problem is that when i have NIC 1 enabled i cant get online, this ONLY happens in WIN2k. If i boot into win98 the 2 nics work flawlessly. Also, the strange thing is that i can see all the users on NIC 2 while NIC 1 is enabled, but still cannot get online. If i disable NIC 1, boom i'm online. whats going on here...can any real network admins help me out here, i'm not certified for any of this :/

are there any known problems with win2k running 2 nics (heh i'm surprised win9x can handel this)

no, everything is alright hardware-wise. Did i mension this problem occurs on more than one pc, about 3-4 with various nics/mainboards all running win2k. When booted to win98 - no probs!!

NIC 1 = private lan?
NIC 2 = connection to internet?

If so I would try not specifying a gateway for NIC1.
My thought is that 2k might be trying to route everything through nic1 thinking that 130.10.10.1 is the default.

I'm having the exact same problem.

My server is dual booting Linux and Win2k. Linux works great, but i'm having intermitent connectivity problems with Win2k. I'm also running Sygate 4.0.

NIC 1(Cable Modem) IP😀HCP
DNS: DHCP
NIC 2(LAN) IP: 192.168.0.1
SN: 255.255.255.0
GW: 192.168.0.1
DNS: 24.28.192.64/24.28.192.65

check your routing table with "route print" on command line. Having two default gateways is causing you problems.

Try elminating the gateway on the 130.10.0.0 network. that should fix your problems.

cheers!

Did what MrChicken said, disable on NIC1... it's kinda sucky but with 2 NIC, network browsing slows down a lot...
