2 Network Questions

Hey Guys,
I recently setup a home network and it works great but I have two questions.
1. How do you configure a PC of remote admin?
2. When I ran the cable to my parents room for their computer The cable reached but was a little short. I've seen cable extensions for phone cables, where the rj11 cable plugs into one end then cable goes on for a length, have you guys ever seen one for cat5?

Yeah, there are cat5 couplers, just saw one somewhere I didn't expect (hardware store, Staples catalog, etc.). Not sure how well they work.
