2 Mobile CPU/GPU Comparisons

Is there much different in the 740qm vs. 720qm? As well as the 5870 vs. 5850?

I am planning on using it for VM's and some gaming specifically BFBC2. I would also like it to last for a few years without showing it's age too much until a replacement is definitely needed.

I can see the 5870 is faster just wanted some real world input.

IIRC, there are two mobile HD 5850s - one with GDDR3 and one with GDDR5. The GDDR3 variant is closer to the HD 5830 in performance, while the other isn't all that much slower than the HD 5870.

Personally, I'd base it off of how many games you plan on playing, and how long you want the notebook to be able to play games for. Since you can't swap out the graphics card, it'll most likely be your limiting factor before anything else is. With that said, if gaming is a priority, I'd get the HD 5870, which IIRC is roughly equivalent in performance to a desktop HD 5770.

The performance difference between the 720 and 740 I'm assuming is negligible? Thank you for the help on the gpu. I'm going to go with your advice and go with the 5870.

I was looking at this notebook http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220695 but it seems there is a GSOD issue.
