2+ minute boot time - 2.5ghz venice

Just got my new system together, and sometimes it works just great, boots quickly, but about 70% of the time, it just keeps scrolling through the windows xp boot up screen for 2, 3 + minutes. I just put the system together, and freshly installed windows xp. The long boot times seem to be random, overclocked, and not. Somehow I get the feeling that its my motherboard, MSI Neo4

Specs:
3000+ venice
MSI Neo4
6800GTO
antec SP 500
512x2 patriot xblk
Hitachi 160Gb sata
XP SP2

How quick does it boot in safemode?

What about an MSConfig clean boot.

Run msconfig, clear all on the startup tab, hide all microsoft then clear on the services tab. Reboot.

it doesn't seem to be any services, as sometimes it will boot very quickly. I will try when i get home tonight though.. also I haven't installed much of anything except anti-virus, so I kind of doubt that is the problem.

johnny..i ahve the same problem.. except mine either takes 15 seconds on the blue scrolling bar screen, or it takes ~2 minutes. I am on a venice 3000, 1 gig ram........ And i have a several prog running at startup, BUT they ARE NOT hte problem cuz it doesn't happen every time...it happens about 60% of the time.,........i have yet to figure out whats up w/ this issue..........

Hard drive dying?

I that was the cause of my long boot times. It would sometimes search for files to load that were on bad sectors and eventually read them and relocate.

Now I have a new problem where I can boot in 15 seconds but the logon screen takes anothe 20 to show up from the little box before it.

i doubt its a bad hard drive. Looking at jonny HD (sorry to hijack) we prob both have the Hitachi t7K250 HD, and mine is only 3 months old......anything else???

(sorry to hijack, but i think we hav ehte same problem)
