2 min pause when bootin win98

Shawn

Lifer
just did a clean install of win98 and there is a 2min pause every time I boot where there is no hd activity at all. I had this problem once before but I can't remember how I fixed it. can someone who's a subscriber do a full text search for me? thanks.

WRONG FORUM

do a full text search for me or stop posting.

Or how about no. There are other places for these threads, just because your fresh install of windows 98 is lagging for 2 minutes doesn't mean that someone has a gun to your face and you need to fix this now before they pull the trigger.

edit - though that may be appropriate

Turn DHCP off.

hmm... that sounds familar. i think that's the problem. that won't affect my wireless connection will it?
Damn mods, make me come out of OT to answer the question. 😛

Dunno. Does your wireless use DHCP to assign an IP?

Regardless, disable DHCP and see if it fixes it. If it does, finish setting up TCP/IP. If your wireless uses DHCP, you'll have to turn it back on- but the long pause will go away if everything is setup right and it gets an IP assigned.
