So, I graduated from college... no job. I have been looking for a long time. Finally I get an offer from Majesco Games doing testing for video games. I started today. I get home from work today and a friend of mine had emailed me saying that the company I interned for last summer wants me to come back. So, I need to call them tomorrow and see exactly what the terms are, but they surely pay better than the game place. The work is more boring though. So, I will probably end up taking that job and quitting Majesco after working for just a week. I feel kind of wierd about that... then again, if they want me, they can pay. Oh, and another thing, there is more of a change of advancement at the new place and virtually none testing games.

What do you think? Take the better paying, more boring one with a better chance for advancement? or stay at the crappy paying one that's slighly more interesting?

I would take the crappy job with interest. It's like this, study hard and get to a great college that is rigorous but worthwhile in the end, or take the college you're happy with even though it's not exactly an ivy league.

that was my first question.

I'd generally go for the further advancement job, unless that job isn't what you want to do for a long time.

Definetly go with the better paying and better advancement opportunity job. I don't think anyone is going to take you seriously if you tell them "I test games, I am a software tester". Sure some geeks might be impressed, but other might think that it's some easy kid's job.

The other job is testing backup and recovery software. Either way it's testing something. But testing an enterprise data protection suite looks a lot better as experience.

I thi nk you'll get bored of testing games soon because when you test them and find a bug you have to write detailed reports of how you got there and everything you did precisely and anything else you can help such as how to fix it.

It's basically the same for testing other software.
