2 Iraq Divisions ready to surrender

linkage

Two army divisions totalling 20,000 troops based in the south of Iraq are set to give themselves up to Allied forces in nearby Kuwait, the sources told Sky News reporter Colin Brazier.

The sources said Iraq's 11th infantry and 51st mechanised divisions were "ready to capitulate".

They said troops from the 6th armoured division were also believed to be considering giving themselves up.

i'm not surprised.

Most Iraqi's hate S. Hussein, so they are stuck in the middle, fight for someone they don't care about, and likely, die at the hands of our troops, or surrender. They're doing the wise thing. I just hope we can get a friendly govt. in there now.

Tell that to some people here who seem to think that Iraqis love Saddam, and hate us evil Americans so much

I know man, I know.

Lot of intolerance around this board with respect to these things. Charrison hasn't done that, he's okay, but others have.

On the BBC feed they were talking about how to handle up to 200,000 or more Iraqi troops when they surrender. The consensus was that they would have to disarm them and then send them home. There aren't the facilities or troops to deal with that many POWs.

edit/
missed a zero, corrected to 200K

Um... Have you ever heard war propaganda? In Iraqi television they propably similar news, like 'most US soldiers already surrendered to our victorious troops...'

Send them home????? :Q

Thats really bad

Don't get the false idea that Iraqis love Americans. They may (quietly) hate their dictator but they have no love for Americans either.

I heard someting on NBC earlier stating that they were ready to handle mass amounts of surrendering troops. In the '91 Gulf War it was estimated that there were 80,000 Iraqi troops that surrendered to coalition forces. They are expecting even larger numbers of surrendering troops this go round, and are trying to prepare for the onslaught.

Well, we better do it after the republican guards and S. Hussein is completely out of power. Otherwise, they'll be sitting unarmed ducks when they get back.

Just run them through a little surgury, circumsize them and then tell them they are now Jews. Then send them home.
