2 Internet connections 1 network

I'm trying to connect 2 computers together for filesharing but they are using different internet connections. How can i do that and make sure they use their respective internet connections?

Explain the setup a little further...

Location of the 2 machines in respect to one another.

Cable modems, routers, switches involved etc...

Specs (OS) running on both machines.

etc.

If you have an extra NIC for each machine then put a crossover cable cable from one to the other and assign them IP Addresses in the same range with the same subnet. Leave the Gateway empty.

put a second NIC in each, and use a crossover cable to connect them together, assign 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2 ip's, no gateway.
