Here is the design of them:

Asus P5B-Plus
Intel Q6600
Patriot 2x2GB 5-5-5-12 DDR2
Seagate 500GB 7200.10
Samsung SATA DVD-RW Drives (I was told to go sata, since linux didnt like the Jmicron controllers)
Gigabyte - 7600GT
Seasonic 550W S12+ High Efficiency Power Supply
Dell 2407WFP

The motherboard has the one and only bios availible installed.

Ive tryed installing Ubuntu 7.04 x64 and Fedora Core 6 x64, both get about half way through the setup then decide to reboot or lock up. Its an ugly site to say the least

I have successfully installed fedora onto a Dell Latitude laptop from these disks, I just cant get these new computers to do much of anything.

Did you ever try running memtest?

I also have had issues getting linux on my intel p965 motherboard based pc. Ubuntu 7.04 almost worked, except for some reason it had issues with video corruption using whatever drivers it installed by default.

Error messages? Actions that consistently precede the crash?

Run a live CD for a few hours and see what happens. If you can get the kernel panic text, that would be great.

In ubuntu, there is no error message, it doesn't get that far. Basically it starts loading the ubuntu logo and the orange bar keeps scrolling for like 45 seconds

then suddenly the screen goes nuts and freezes and thats the last anything happens.

for Fedora 6 it sprays billions of lines of text on the screen then locks up and says something, which I cant remember off hand but I can check tomorrow.

Take out the words "quiet splash" from the Ubuntu boot command line and you'll get the same "billions of lines of text" that FC prints and you should get an error. By default Ubuntu hides that stuff so that it looks pretty but it has the annoying side effect of not letting you know what goes wrong either.

So I got it installed, but I had to disable the memory remap feature. No clue why Linuxx64 wouldnt install on 4 Gigs of ram.... but I suspect it is the motherboard
