Hi all. Have had a lot of problems with 2 IDE CD-ROMS hanging each other up. Sometimes they work perfect, other times they go out to lunch and don't come back. System is a P4B533-V Asus, P4 2Ghz, 1gig Muskin PC2700 RAM - Windows XP Pro. Using a SCSI 160 and Fujitsu 18GB 15K HD for aps and 2 40GB Maxtors for storage. Have had this problem with a T-Bird/Via/Win 2K combo but thought going to the Intel/P4/XP setup would fix it - it didn't
The CD-ROMs are a Verbatim 40x12x48 CDR and a Toshiba DVD player - also tried a Memorex 48 speed CD-ROM in place of the DVD. What happens a lot of the time is the CD-ROM light just stays on and hangs the PC. Copied three CD's in a row, on the fly, perfectly, then the fourth hung up and coastered. Using good Japanese Fuji blanks.
Currently have a Maxtor ATA 100 card too so that the 2 Maxtor drives and 2 CD-ROMs are all Masters. Thought this would help the traffic. Have tried different Master/Slave combinations and but can't seem to get stability with these CD-ROMs.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.
