how do install windows 2000 sp1 with no problems. i have heard so many stories that i neeed to install onto a small 4GB partition FAT16 ! then convert to NTFS later on etc.

basically guys just quick reply and i am sure i can do it easy.
Set the ARRAY for performance.

i have a Supermicro PIIISCD Motherboard - http://www.supermicro.com/PRODUCT/MotherBoards/820/PIIISCD.htm

if this helps any ...

it`s just that when i tried to install anto 120GB partition it formated to NTFS ok then gave loads of error codes etc. i presume this is too large for fdisk or ?

anywya just a quick reply a kinda bullet point list of what i should be aware of and how to install.
The drives have just had boot setor erazed and low level formatted and tested using IMB`s Drive Fitness test 2.10, alll went great ;-) BY the waay i have found that Windows 2000 does not like taking my driver for te fasttrack IF you use the bootable CD ? go figure and yes i did press f6 at the right time ;-) also the only time it did work and recognise the drive was when I USED THE BOOT DISKS and the Drives IBM 60GXP`S WERE JUST out the anti static bags.... this is why i have low level formatted them and wiped the boot sector. BUT once again.... it would not let me DELETE the boot sector WHEN the drives were CONNECTED to the TX2 IDE RAID card. it would do EVERYTHING else suing drive fitness test from IBM but not that ??? to delete the boot sector i had to connect to my ide channels on my motherboard... WEIRD EH ??? any reason(s) ideas guys and gals ?

Thankyou all sooooo much ;-)

Try this man...Get a 98 boot disk, FDISK your 120GB partition using FAT32 (don't worry if FDISK only displays a total partition size of about ~50GB). Now just format the drive and install 2000. When 2000 asks for the controller drives hit F6 and install the TX2 drivers. Once 2000 completely installs, convert your FAT32 partition to NTFS. ;)

P.S. If you have a resident NTFS5 partition on your drive FDISK may not be able to delete it. If this is the case look up a program called "delpart." This program will kill ANY file system so you can start over (in your case, so you can use FAT32).

Try making a smaller (100GB) NTFS partition. You can also try making the partition beforehand with fdisk, PartitionMagic, Ranish Partition Manager, or some other tool. Then boot off the Win2K CD and install.
