2 hot aliens

I got a little program that tells me how hot my processors are - they're reading 42c and 47c with seti running 24/7. How does this compare with others? Am I trashing my processors? They've been running like this for at least 2 months, and I really haven't seen much problems ----- but if this is weird, I'd sure like to know.
Thanks
lenny

What are they? I know my P3's usually run around 40C with a Golden Orb on them. The retail Intel HS/F combo ran about 10C hotter.

As Robor said, it depends entirely on what processor you have...

My K6-3+ runs at 42 Celsius at 600Mhz when running SETI, but my PII-400 gets as high as 50+ Celsius when running SETI (cheap stock HSF) and neither of them have ever had a heat-related problem.

No Xenobabes!!!!!

ok, seriously. My k6-3 is also a 42C and my tbird runs around 38C but this one fluctuates with the room tempature much more than other. Not sure what the temps are like without running seti becuase it is always running. One difficulty with inquiries such as these is the differences in motherboards. Different methods of measuring temps, and different locations of sensors. Leads to alot of variation with similar cpus and HS. So take all this info with a grain of salt.

I have even found different programs report different temps from the same sensor, so I only rely on the one that comes from the MB manufacturer. I beleive they should know best how their sensor reads.
