Hi All,

When I use my Sandisk cruzer Micro 2 GB with WIN XP computers, it gets switched off when stopped. When used with Vista computers, the power doesnot get switched off, even though the message says that the drive can be safety removed.

I have updated my Vista to the current status so there should not be any driver issues. Also updated the firmware of the laptop.

I think it is one of the numerous bugs with Vista. Am I right or is there a solution?

Is there actually a problem or is it that there is still a light on in the memory stick when you're taking it out? Does anything bad actually happen? If you tell windows to safely disconnect the drive then it's not mapped to anything and won't be being written to or read from so you've nothing to worry about when taking it out. Not that I even subscribe to that, these days. Providing you're not writing anything to the disk you can just yank it.

No. There is no problem except that the red LED which signals the power connection/cuoff, remains glowing, in case of Vista, while in case of XP it gets switched off. Otherwise catually I haven't faced any problem. It is just to confirm if thre is any solution available with any of the netizens of this forum.
Thanks for the tip.

You do understand the little LED on those USB drives isn't a power light but an access light. The drive is constantly being fed power while plugged in but the LED only lights up when the drive is being accessed.

The Light on the Sandisk Cruzer Micro is always On when they are Plugged.

The light flickers when Data us Read or written.

When the OS' USB popup menu says that it is safe to remove the drive, it means that all the No Data interaction concerning the drive is waiting to be executed, and it can be removed.

When you unplug the Drive the light would turn Off.

If the light stays On after you unplug it, call the Exorcist. ;)

My Sandisk Micro 2GB does the same thing in WIndows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, .... so I wouldn't worry about it. My Kingston Datatraveller does turn off when it is not reading.
