2 GB Flash Drive vs 5 GB pocket harddrive

I am looking at either this or this.

As you can see the harddrive is cheaper and holds more but I am a student and it is going to be riding in my backpack everyday. I can't have it breaking or anything. These are the only two items I am considering, but if you know of another device please list it (I am looking for something very reliable which is why I am willing to pay extra for a kingston). Thanks. By the way, I cannot have anything other than what can connect via usb.

This might be a better question for OS forum but I plan on using it on the college network. Will it see the two drives the same i.e. I can read and write to both or do I have to be administrator to use the seagate.

Well if it means anything I can see my flash drive on the network.

The pocket drive is physically large, with more space per dollar.
The flash drive is physically smaller, more expensive both overall and for the storage.

The flash drive, however, will stand up to a lot more abusse than the HDD one.
