2 ethernet ports on a mobo? what do you use them for?

Is this the hardware equivalent of software bloat? just add more stuff that most people will never use? What common practice would mandate 2 ethernet ports? As far as I know, you can double your speed this way-unless you had 2 dsl/cable accounts to your house- and even then you could not use both through the same instance of a browser on your desktop. Although you could be doing different things through each connection and therefore increasing the breadth of your bandwidth.
