Strange problem,my ASUS SATA DVD RW D/L started spitting out DVD's when I tried to write and it told me to insert the correct media.I checked and it appears in Vista 64 as a DVD Ram drive (but only reads CD's) I inserted the DVD into my 2nd Asus IDE DVD RW and it wrote ok.

I then went to bed and when I checked the next day both of my DVD writers say they are CD-RAM drives and neither will read or write DVD media.I checked my Bios and it's informing me that the drives are CD drives!

I was offered a new fix for my Attansic L1 Gigabyte LAN driver the other day (automatic detection thing in Vista) and also installed the latest updates/patches for Vista but don't feel this could be the problem as the drives act the same in my Vista and XP boots and also shows up wrong in BIOS.

Please help me as I need to be able to read DVD's at the very least as my pre-ordered Age of Conan DVD's can't be installed and I can't play the game.

Wow that's bizzarre... In BIOS, are the drives set to Auto Detect? If yes, is there an option to select them as DVD drives? I'm leaning to BIOS error, maybe try flashing your BIOS with newer version or just re-flash with your current version. BIOS could be corrupt.

Windoze will serve what the BIOS detects, hence I suspect it's the BIOS doing. If BIOS is detecting drives incorrectly, then Windoze will too.
