Can i put both of these drives on the same ide channel and not sacrafice performance of the 7200.
I,m just using cdrw on the other channel. What would be the bast way to go?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Even if one was a different speed like UDMA66, you could put them both on the same channel. They will each run at the correct speed. The only slowdown you will suffer with 2 drives on one channel is when copying files between those 2 drives. Since only one drive can talk at a time, file transfers are slower than if the drives were on seperate channels.

Yes, you can put them on the same channel. BUT... It is best for performance not to.

This is what I suggest. Put the HD that contains your C drive on your Primary controller, then place the other HD and the CD on the Secondary. This will allow both drives to be written to at once if need be.

It really comes down to which drives will be getting most use. Will you be copying lots of files from one HD to another? From CD's to a HD?

Main thing I reccomend is have the CD-RW on a different channel that the HD that gets the most use. Usually the C drive.
