Hi Everyone,
I have been looking all over to figure out a solution to my problem and if you can help, I would love to hear any advice you may have...
I have to do this on Windows 2000 or XP based machines though....argh.
I have 2 Internet connections: a DSL connection and a proxy-ed T-1 (all Internet traffic on the T-1 goes through a corporate proxy), each comes in through separate routers.
The PC's I am using have 2 NIC's installed, 1 with a line coming from the T-1 router, the other with a line from the DSL router.
The T-1 line was used for everything before the DSL was installed. I want to use the DSL to connect just to some websites or just with one browser.
Optimally, I wanted to use IE for the T-1 and Firefox for the DSL or vice-versa (do either have settings to choose which nic traffic goes through?). I want to be able to use both connections at the same time, and it would be great if I could use them for different traffic (specific IP's). I can disable one nic or the other to switch between them, but I really need to be able to use both simultaneously because my LAN traffic only goes on one NIC and I can't have that shut off.
I have set up IE with no proxy and Firefox with the proxy, but it seems to not be able to determine which nic is the proxy line and therefore I always get either only the proxyed T-1 Internet or only the DSL Internet depending on what route metrics I set for each nic. I tried bridging the 2 NIC's together, but it makes only one actually functional. I was thinking is there a way to link one into the other or loop them around so when it can't find a site on one it will timeout and use the 2nd connection? I thought of the different ways to set up Default GW and DNS settings, but I can't seem to come up with a way to make the browser switch between them or use just a specific connection.
I am open to installing and/or buying 3rd party software, configuring the OS or browsers settings, etc. I just need to find a way to do it!
Thanks for any and all advice,🙂
Craig
