2 different cores for amd64 3200?

One has the clawhammer core with 1 mb l2 cache at 2 ghz the other is newcastle core with 512kb l2 cache at 2.2ghz. when did this happen and which is better?

I dont know when they did that, but I would be inclined to go with the higher clock speed. Unless you do things that are very cache intensive. If you are gaming, go for the clock cycles.

Also, as a note, i just check cpu-z info on my CPU, Clawhammer core 2800+ and it is only reporting 512K of L2.

I am a big gamer but just recently i have gotten into video encoding and burning dvds
what would be better?

I guess you can go with the higher cache and just OC it a little. Should work fine, and you'll have the best of both worlds. I think I'm going to purchase one of them soon, if not after I'm done posting this =)

I think that the one with the lower cache would actually OC better. I'm far from an expert, so take that as you will.

I would be a little more inclined to go with the newcastle core, since it should be a more mature core and have some revisions to make it a more efficient processor than the clawhammer, but again, it'd just come down to which one actually performs better.
