What im trying to do without buying more stuff if possible is run my PC and Xbox off the same data jack,

I have a closet with a data switch in it so right now I run the 4 ports out of the router into the closet then then closet branches each line to a separate room..(im add a pic to show you guys) I would really like to run the PC and 360 in my bedroom at the same time since I stream from the pc..would a switch work or even better is there something else I can do?

Right now im switching the line back and forth but its a pita and plus I dont get to stream from my PC

Thanks folks

A small 5 or 6 port switch will do fine. Just be sure that you use the correct Output jack out of the Router and the correct Input on the Switch. Some routers and switches are picky about which jack it needs to be.

why would I use a 6 port switch? I want to use the data jack in my bed room to run 2 devices I dont want to undo the router config in the closet

Yep just get a small switch - even a 4 or 5 port would work if you can find one and hook it to the existing jack. Newer switches have auto negotiation so it shouldn't matter on the jack you plug it into in the switch - older ones have a specific jack that's labeled (uplink) - if it has this then that's the jack you plug it into, then plug your pc and xbox or whatever else you want into the remaining jacks. Voila.

If your computer has 2 ethernet ports (or if you have a spare card laying around), you should be able to bridge the connections, and not have to buy a switch.

I also want to use the data jack in my bed room to run 2 devices I dont want to undo the router configure in the closet.
