Are you sure the Iomega drive will be at that price? Do you work for Compusa?
Thanks.

It's the Okie Corporation. I've never heard of them, but it's probably made by one of the few real manufacturers out there.

Pete,

If you have bought this drive, how does it work on reading cd-roms (especially cdr's)? I have a 40x cd-rom reader right now that won't read many original disks, so I need to replace it. If this DVD drive reads well, I think we have a winner.

That Okie DVD was sold in Compusa for $59.99 some time this month. I guess Compusa did not do well in this DVD. So they redo it in year end.

Okie is an India company. I think China companies even has better hardware quality than India companies. When you visit Okie website, you will find the website is even worse than a personal website. I don't believe Okie's DVD is OK. I hope the Okie DVD is made in Japan, or Taiwan. Then I will take one.

If you purchase the drive prior to the sale at Compusa...take your receipt in to the store during the sale. They will credit you with the difference in price. I spoke to a manager today after rooting around in the Maxtor 40Gb drive display until I found the 45Gb ata100 drive. He told me to go back to _any_ Compusa and they would take care of it for me. BTW, they also had the Maxtor ata100 controller card in stock.

Just a quick question, kinda off/on topic...Can the new ATA100 card be hacked into a RAID card like the ata66 cards could???

Okie is the same as Prime Peripherals. Their website is www.primeperipherals.com

I bought the 8X DVD-ROMs from CompUSA a few weeks ago. It was $59 after $30 rebate. The box said Prime Peripherals. The rebate was with Okie. The 8X DVD-ROM was made by Affrey (DD-4008E). Apparently you can make this particular drive region free by putting a jumper in the middle set of pins to the left of the digital audio out. I have no idea about the 10X.

I stopped by Comp on my way home from work, they have the TKD
12x10x32x with burnproof, only burnproof on the shelf, and the manager told me that if it went on
sale Sunday I could come in and get the diff. 299$, they have only
five in inventory. If I buy it saturday and it does not go on sale
where am I at?

I went to the Compusa web site, found the drive and checked to see it was available at the local store, it was. So, how reliable is their stock checker and how reliable is the info on the 150.00 ir, I wonder?

Their online stock is VERY reliable. It helps me gets deals all the time. The thing is it gets updatead at 8AM every morning so if at 8:05 someone goes in and wipes out the stock, it won't reflect it. The $150 deals seems extremely legit especially with people actually talking to employees that know about it.
