So wait a minute, you are saying that the people bitch about the lack of gun control, live in areas with gun control and they are getting shot? Are you saying that gun control doesn't work and doesn't make any sense? I agree with you.

How about, he is saying that people in states with gun crontrol are still complaining about it becasue without NATIONAL gun control the guns can just come across the state line.

I really do hope that you guys take up gun control again these next 2 years, Republicans will win big in 08 if you do. Gun control does not work. Prohibition really doesn't work. It didn't work with alcohol, it doesnt work with drugs, and it doesnt work with guns. Do you really think that the criminals are going to stop committing crimes with guns because it is illegal to have a gun??

How about you let the law abiding citizens arm themselves to protect their home and their family from the criminals that are going to get a gun anyways.

Absolutely true! I am socially liberal, and I don't stop for a hypocrisy break to support gun bans.

If we legalized drugs, roughly half of our prison space would open up, so that we could keep more violent criminals off the streets. And since the price of drugs would plummet to almost nothing, there wouldn't be any point in committing crimes to get the drugs, so that takes a second class of criminal out of action.

Focus on incarcerating offenders who HARM OTHER CITIZENS. This drug war has done nothing but screw this country up.

Gun control won't work, as obviously only law-abiding citizens would disarm. Someone bent on committing violent crime would find a gun through other criminals (if they don't already have several).

You are also forgetting that they could tax it just like anything else, you want solvent SS? Legalize pot, tax it, and sell it at CVS.

Very nice ;) See, all kinds of great potential here ..

All I ask of those Democrats who truly are against gun control....Write your Senators and Congressmen if and when another gun ban comes up. Tell them you dont support gun bans and you wont support them if they do push for one.

And that's why I think you guys are getting your panties in a bunch over nothing...there are a fair number of Dems who ARE against the more extreme forms of gun control (very few people, even the NRA, are totally against all forms of gun control). I don't think that 7-11 should be handing out free guns when you buy a coke, for example, but I also don't support the types of "gun control" found in cities like San Francisco and Washington DC. And I'm certainly not alone on the left, this idea that 2nd amendment supporters are some sort of oppressed minority simply isn't true, even among lefties. So relax, nobody is coming to take your guns...

Again, all i ask is that if a gun ban comes up the Democrats write their politicians. Obviously I cannot. It does me no good to write a Democrat and say "I didnt vote for you before, but if you pass a gun ban I'll definitely not vote for you enxt time!" ;)

I would like to highlight now the success of the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006. This will basically keep overzealous police and governors from repeating what happened in Katrina. A little history is that police and national guard were ordered to confiscate weapons. While it was true that some state emergency powers authorized control and regulation of guns in those situations, it was a far cry from prohibiting guns. This was a direct violation of thats states own constitution not to mention the U.S. constitution and left citizens helpless since the police did not do much of anything else.

Funny that the major bitchers about welfare live in freeloader states.

Funny the major bitchers about gun control live in near gun free states.

Hehe, I guess you went to one of those red state schools that didn't teach you how to formulate your ideas well or double check what you have said. Just kidding!!!!

The major bitcher about gun control is the Red State NRA. The people who bitch about the lack of gun control are the people who are getting shot by a flood of unregulated guns often times flowing into areas with gun control from NRA strong areas. Gun control is the desire of people who live in areas where guns are out of control and people are being shot, areas of high population density where you can't draw and fire at a black hat cowboy fleeing into a crowd.

Personal attacks? I expected better of you Moon.

So what your saying is the ridiculous gun laws dont work? Imagine that. I have an idea, why dont those blue state paradises just make it illegal to kill someone? Or why dont they make it illegal to own a weapon if your a felon?

No no, much better to dismantle the BoR isnt it. To hell with our gaurenteed rights anyways.

Why is ti states with CCW laws have lowered the level of crime? Why is it guns were used almost 2 million times in self defense. Why is it the guns they try to ban (.50, "assault weapons") account for less the 5% of all gun crime? Might as well make Everclear illeagl to combat drunk driving.

Yeah, make sure those stats dont get out. You couldnt push for gun control if people knew the truth.

I am not arguing in favor of gun control. I am pointing out your and others lack of logic and the silly assumptions you make when I do.

You're right. *You* are not argueing for gun control, however you are giving reasons for gun control suipport. I simply pointed out why the reasons you gave are indeed silly.

The reasons I gave were based on the same silly logic you gave. I figured if you could see how silly mine were you could see how silly yours were, or if not you than somebody else.

Indeed, and I'm saying that in that case, there WOULD be plenty of Dems writing their politicians. But more importantly, there would be a lot of moderates/independents writing to them as well. Democratic politicians may not listen to you, but they sure will listen to the swing voters.
