2 computers sharing DSL behind router and Online Games

My roommate and I are sharing DSL with a D-link di804 router. However, only one of us can play online games, such as Unreal, at a time. If he gets onto an internet server, his ping is like 30. However If i come online and try to play along, both our pings shoot up to like 1000. Is this commoon?

That used to happen to me as well. I'm using cable behind a RT314. Whenever I would join a counterstrike server w/ 30 or less ping, and then a friend would try to join the same server. Our pings would then soar to 1000 + just like you. This also happens in Quake3, Unreal, and Tribes2. This was about a month ago, and we decided not to play games online together. However, in the past 2 weeks when we tried again, it worked perfectly fine for some reason. I didn't change any settings, it just worked. Hope you can find the same luck. 🙂
