2 computers, 1 set of speakers

Hola muchachos. I've got 2 computers and only one set of speakers. Rather than buying another set, is there any way I can make a switch so that the Line Out from each computer is connected to the speakers at all times? I've looked around at Radio Shack and asked the clerks there for help but there's no splitters for 1/8" speaker wires, and at any rate I want to be able to select between the two, rather than having both computers push sound to the speakers simultaneously.

Since the object of this hunt is to keep from having to get behind the computers every time I tap the KVM, bonus points go to anyone who can figure out a system that can sit on my tabletop (not behind the computers).

There isn't any switch that is available that I know of, and seeing as a decent (read::cheapo) set of speakers can be had for $15, I don't think there ever will be a need for this. I suggest just plunking down $19.99 for a set of speakers..Regards

i've made a similar splitter in the past out of radio shack parts. i used it to plug both speakers AND headphones into ONE 1/8 inch speaker output.

all you need is a project box, 3 1/8 inch female jacks, a DPDT switch, and some wires.

i don't have any formal plans, but i could probably walk you it if you want..total cost is like 15 bucks, and it works pretty well.

Update: with Sohcrates' advice I've done it. It's installed and working right now. Total cost: $22.51 plus tools and labor. So it didn't quite beat out a second set of cheapo speakers, but my non-cheapo speakers now sound great on EITHER computer.

you sure you can't find anything at radioshack? Ive seen many dongles and things that can be found at radioshack for this
