I am talking about the 3d effect, not the plot.

Cinebarre:
Thor
Rio

I sat way way back for Rio and close for Thor.
Is it the Cinema?
Were those two filmed with a different method than Avatar?
Has my vision changed?

I am hoping someone here will come up with some sort of uber technical answer that will explain how hollywood has some sort of crappy technique they have been trying which is cheaper but doesn't look as realistic as the one used for Avatar.

I think it's a pretty simple answer - Avatar was filmed in 3D (with 3D cameras) - almost everything since it is just filmed conventionally, then converted to 3D in post-processing.

The next 3D movie you see will also be bad.

then the next,

then the next after that.

amazing how slow people have been to realize that this is mostly marketing BS.

The surprising thing would be to see a good 3D movie. 3D is a gimmick. It probably increases ticket sales because people want to see the cool 3D effects but it also takes money to shoot the film in 3D, or render it in 3D. So the films that get this treatment are either rendered cartoons (the only good 3D) and stupid action flicks. One dimensional characters don't look any better in the 3rd dimension. 😛

Thor was a mediocre movie. Watched it in 2D and the special effects were uninspiring, to say the least. I don't think making it 3D would make it any better, to be honest.

As for Rio...haven't watched it. Should I?
