Hey, im helping a friend upgrade his computer and i cant decide which agp card would be better for him; his budget is around 150$-200$. He would also like to run his gamese at 1024x768 with no hitches at 4xaa and 8x af. He's got a nice cpu but i think his 512 ram is limiting his gaming. So far im looking at these two:
#1
Geforce 6800: 128mb 256bit DDR
Reason: Ravtuner can possibly unlock the extra 4 pipeplines and 1 shader
Plus its 159$ after rebate. Although ive seen benchmarks that show it only increasing 7-10%
#2
Geforce 6600 GT: 256mb 128bit DDR3
Reason: 144$ and benchmarks get around 40 fps in doom 3 and halflife
If you could be kind enough to help me with ur expertise or any suggestions thx.
I also have a few more questions. I know he has an intel pentium 4, but im not sure how to find out the model or socket. In the computer properties it says its 2ghz and im pretty sure thats all it says.
Questions:
#1:
Can pentium cpu/mobos use dual channel ram? such as ddr 184 pc 3200?
#2
How do i find out what kind of mobo he has?
#3
He has some kind of samsung flat panel, im not sure if it ideal for gaming but it supports 2 resolutions 800x600 and 1024x768.. im guessing that the second rez is the one he should play games at.
thx - mike
