My Gear:
Intel SL6WJ
Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu w/ AS5
Abit IC7
OCZ Gold Rev2 PC3700 256x2
GeForce2 Pro

Core Volt = 1.65
vDimm = 2.8
I have my latency set at 3-3-3-8.
AGP/PCI lock 66/33

Is there anything I can do to get it up to 250FSB??

I tried 245FSB @ 1.7V and the monitor wouldn't turn on. I had to reset CMOS.

Should I make my timings more lax?

I was held back by 400w with my current rig in sig.

Moved to 550w.

I am using an Antec 300W SmartPower right now that pushes 15A max. I have an Antec TruePower430W coming in tomorrow. From the BIOS menus it shows the 12V rail at like 11.61V.

The TP430 will be a big improvement over the SP300, wait till you get that sucker installed, hopefully it'll open up that chip to 3.5+ for ya :).

Are you running your ram using 1:1 or 5:4 memory ratio?

If your are running 1:1 you may be maxing your memory.

11.61 12V sucks. I am not sure if that is what causing it not to POST though. Normally your rails start out good and then gradually start to dip.

If you start up your system and you get nothing......that means the problem is your CPU. I would much rather hear long beeps when I started it up b/c at least you could do something with your RAM. I have a SL6WJ, and I have to run 245 around 1.575V, I guess the chips are hit and miss. I can run 243 at stock voltage max. Try it again when you get your new PSU, and hopefully you will have better luck.

I'm running 1:1 but it's PC3700. I didn't think it would have that much trouble going from DDR466 to DDR500

Try laxing the timings to 3-4-4-8 and bump the vdimm a little more. Run memtest for a few loops to see if you're getting errors.

My second guess is like somebody said before...the PSU. Once you get your True 430 in you'll probably see a good bit of difference. :)

My PSU should be here today so I'll have results posted by tonight. I'm very optimistic about changing the PSU and getting better results. Something just doesn't look right about a 12V rail hovering at 11.61 all the time. I don't even have my second hard drive and DVDRW hooked up yet. How sad is that.

As for upping the vdimm past 2.8V... it's not possible on my IC7. The max is 2.8.. unless there is a newer bios or something.... anyone know????

I really doubt your problem has anything to do with your memory. OCZ PC3700 Gold is some of the best ram available. As a matter of fact, I'm quite surprised that you're able to get up to 240 fsb with only a 300 watt psu. As long as you don't have alot of hard-drives, or a high-powered video card, you'll be able to hit 3.5ghz with a TruePower 430.

Well I'm still using a GeForce2 Pro 64MB so I guess you can consider that "low-powered". As for hard drives I'm running 2 Western Digital 80GB Special Edition 8MB Buffer.

Thanks man! You give me hope!!

But his 12V rail is super low!!

A new psu should help keep that up to par...opening up a higher OC!

Why do you think I said I was surprised that he is able to get up to 2.4ghz with a 300 watt psu?

OK, so major bummer. Aparently the power supply doesn't do jack for Overclocking.

My 12V rail is still at 11.61V. But at least I was able to plug everything in and get to the desktop at 243FSB. Here is my setup:

2.8c @ 3.410 243FSB
Abit IC7 i875
OCZ Gold Rev2 PC3700 256x2
Gainward GeForce2 Pro 64mb
Lite-On DVDRW 811S
Lite-On DVD-Rom
Western Digital 800JB x 2
1 80mm case fan
Audigy x-gamer

It won't run prime95 for more than 4 minutes at 243FSB before CPU temp hits 70C and then prime 95 fails. Is 70C too high???

Memory Latency: 3-4-4-8
vDIMM: 2.8V
vCore: 1.7V (actual - as shown in motherboard monitor)
12V rail reading: 11.43 - 11.71 / load - idle

Don't spend the time and effort switching out the AlCu to the Cu. Every article I've seen the Cu edges out the hybrid one only marginally if at all.

nup, not really. might make it a bit more stable at a highe OC. nothing too significant since your previous is not what i consider to be a bad PSU.

His new 430-watt PS can deliver higher sustained amperage on the 5 and 12-volt lines than than his old 300-watter could. This will definitely help with overclocking.

I have a Trupower 430 myself running an overclocked AthlonXP rig with lotsa drives and it's rock solid.

FWIW, my 12-volt rail has been at 11.65v and the 5-volt at 4.90 since it was new and it rarely moves from those voltages at all.
