how come alot of computers these days support the 2.88mb 3 1/2 disk drive standard? When ever i goto a computer store. I never see any of them selling the the 2.88mb disk drives or the 2.88mb floppy disk? What the point of supporting it if no one sells them here in the United States?

Because why not? It doesn't hurt anything, and they don't really cost anything more.

Hi, 288mb floppies are standard 1.44mb floppies formated to 2.88. Any 1.44mb floppy drive will read and write them. There used to be many DOS programs to download that will write them. Some had to have a reader loaded. MS started that to get more on a disk for Win 3.1 installs. Jim
