2 8800GTs in SLI or a single GTX flavored card?

I've been out of gaming for a quite a while. My gaming PC has just sat there for many months and in that time a lot has changed. My system is running 2 8800GTs in SLI and I got to thinking, should I sell the 2 of them and take that money to get say a GTX 260 or 275, etc? Would one of these newer cards out perform my 2 8800GTs? The other thing to note is my motherboard is not PCIe 2.0 so my 2 cards are running at 8x each instead of the 16x the newer motherboards support.

Thanks for any advice!

1680x1050 4xAA and lower resolution your sli setup is faster. Anything higher AA settings or resolution GTX260/275 is faster.

If you break even I would just do it. If not don't waste your time/money unless you are running 1920 resolution.

This has been very helpful thanks for all the info guys! I think for now I'll just keep my setup since I run all my games at my monitor's max res of 1680x1050 and never really turn on AA much at all.

Hello, Pentacore. I also have 2 8800GTs in SLI and they still rock! Wait for the DirectX11 GPUs to come out. Skip this generation.

If your 88800GTs are only 512mb versions then you will need to keep texture quality down in some newer games to avoid VRAM thrashing, but until you come across a game where that happens and it bothers you, you might as well stick with what you have.
