2.80 or 2.80A?

I have an Intel D845EBG2 motherboard and wanted to upgrade it to something a bit faster. Got HL2 in and it's a bit slow on this 1.6A P4 processor.

The Intel site says this motherboard can go up to a P4 2.80.

I'm looking around and the only P4 2.80 I see is a 512kb Northwood processor. However, I also saw a P4 2.80A Prescott with 1mb cache.

Does anyone know if the Prescott processor will work in the D845EBG2 motherboard?

The Procss rating on the Intel website shows 90nm for the Prescott and .13 micron for the Northwood chip. I didn't know exactly what that was, but thought it might be enough for the Prescott to not work in this mobo. FSB is the same for both.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

I would go with the northwood. Make sure it's the 2.8B with 533fsb, as the board won't support a 2.8c with 800mhz fsb. The 2.8A is the prescott, which will run hotter, and not perform as well compared to the northwood.

Hey appreciate the quick response from all of you. I got the 2.8Ghz Northwood and it's running fine. Now I just need to get a Gig of memory and I'll be set. :Q
