2.8 to 3.2, worth upgrade?

I have been looking for as many benchmarks as I could find, to see if its is worth upgrading my CPU. I have a Soyo P4I865PE Dragon 2 motherboard that is rated up to 3.2ghz Prescott. I am currently running a 2.8ghz Northwood, is it worth the $250+ CAD to upgrade or would it be better to scrap the MB and go the top end AMD route? Keep in mind PCI-E is not an issue since I have a Asus 6800GT AGP card and won't be upgrading it.

Many Thanks

What do you do mostly? You might be better off grabbing a new mobo and overclocking the 2.8, most hit 3.3 to 3.5 with little effort.

Not sure its worth the extra 5 or 6 FPS to have to crank my Zalman 7000 up from 1300 rpm to 2600 rpm, thing gets really winy at max RPM's. Not to mention I would need to turn my 120mm fans up from low to high..yuck.

P.S. Quiet is good!

My 2.8 Northwood gets 3.3Ghz with stock cooler and stock voltage...

Should be a piece of cake with a Zalman 7000 (i would think)

Dude the Northwood is a far superior cpu to the Prescott.
Prescott runs VERY hot. Def leave the Nwood @ 3.3 and your good🙂

prescott only beats northwood when its clocked roughly 3.5ghz or higher. still, the preshotts run hotter, hence its name.

Roger that

just for a benchmark NO !,if you have some application that requires 3.2 then you have no choice.

Preshot ? NEVER,yes QUITE is nice

Overclock your 2.8, its silly to buy a new proc just for an extra 400 MHz. Hella got my P4 2A running at 2.7 stable.
